Case study · Somnium 4:44

We run our own AI product. Here’s how.

Before we advise anyone on putting AI to work, we hold our own product to the same standard. Somnium 4:44 is built and operated by Nueva Vista, and it is the clearest way to show how we work.

What we built

Somnium 4:44 is an AI dream journal. You record a dream, and a council of AI interpreters writes a reading grounded in symbolism and archetypes, kept in your private dream record. The readings are written by a commercial AI model on a paid plan.

It is a live, paid subscription product. People pay through a payment processor for a single reading, a monthly plan, or lifetime access. New dreamers get a few free readings first, and the server, not the browser, keeps that count.

Where it runs

The API and the database run on a server we run, with its own Postgres database holding accounts, dreams and readings. We moved off the hosted backend the first version was built on. The pages people see are still served by a hosting provider; the part that stores dreams and handles payments is run by us.

A claims check before each release we ship

Every promise the product makes about privacy, backups and what we never do is listed in a registry, with the evidence in the code that makes it true. Before each release we ship, a script scans the product's pages, emails and the files search engines read for privacy and security promises. A promise that is not in the registry stops the release.

It exists because privacy promises don't only live on the privacy page. They live on every screen, in every email, and in the files search engines read.

Deleting an account means deleting it

Anyone can delete their account from inside the app. Their account, dreams and readings are erased right away. Our encrypted nightly backups clear them within 16 days, as old backups roll off.

What stays is a billing record with no dreams in it (the plan, the payment status, when they paid, and the payment processor's customer reference) so a chargeback or a tax question can still be answered, plus security log entries with nothing left that ties them to the person. The payment processor keeps its own payment records. An active subscription is cancelled first, and if the payment processor can't be reached, nothing is deleted, so an account is never deleted while it can still be billed.

A watchdog on production

Every five minutes a watchdog checks production and emails the founder only when something changes, from healthy to broken or back. It exists because in August 2026 a server setting broke the site for every Safari user and no system noticed. A person did. Now a system does.

What it proves for your business

In our experience, AI projects stall between the demo and the day they have to work with real customers, real money and real data. Somnium 4:44 lives on the far side of that line, and we run it ourselves.

When we map where AI pays in your operation, we bring the same questions to your first win: who holds the data, is every promise true in the code, and who finds out first when something breaks.
